Overview

Half the metal on a campus is mechanical.

The electrical chain gets the attention, but the cooling plant, the technology-cooling loop and the generator yard carry just as much fabricated steel: thousands of feet of chilled-water pipe cut and welded into spools, the manifolds that split flow to each hall, the skids that CDUs and pumps sit on, the racks and trapezes that carry it all overhead, the ductwork and plenums in the air-handling galleries, and the dunnage under chillers, dry coolers and cooling towers. Liquid cooling for high-density racks has multiplied that scope, and most of it is still welded in the field by the mechanical contractor.

FabTek moves that work into the shop. At four production sites in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, we cut, fit and weld carbon and stainless piping to ASME B31.1 and B31.3 with Section IX qualified welders, hydrotest it before it ships, mount it on skids with the structural and sheet-metal work done in the same building, and powder-coat or galvanize the supports that carry it. The electrical-room steel and enclosures on Data Center Steel come from the same plants, so a developer, GC or mechanical contractor can buy the mechanical metal and the electrical metal on one schedule from one domestic source.

Applications

Where it goes.

Hyperscale and colocation campuses, enterprise and edge sites, and the central utility plants that serve them. Mechanical contractors buy spools, manifolds and supports to pull welding off the site; developers and GCs buy skids and prefab assemblies to compress schedule; equipment integrators buy skid bases and piping to complete their packages. Our data center guides cover the power and cooling chain end to end.

Why FabTek

Built to the energization sequence, not the fab schedule.

A campus does not need every spool on day one; it needs the spools for Hall 1 before Hall 1's chillers set, and nothing for Hall 4 taking up laydown. FabTek releases mechanical scope by area and by hall, tags every spool and support to the isometric and the room, and stages shipments against the construction schedule. Our guide to sourcing pipe spools for a data center covers how that sequencing works.

Why FabTek

Frequently Asked

Common questions.

Does FabTek fabricate process piping for data centers?

Yes. We cut, fit and weld carbon and stainless pipe spools, manifolds and headers to ASME B31.1 and B31.3 at our Mississippi plants, hydrotest them and ship them tagged to the drawings.

Which metal fabricators handle both the piping and the steel on a data center project?

FabTek Industries fabricates pipe spools, skids and manifolds alongside pipe racks, platforms, electrical-room steel and enclosures at the same plants, so one supplier can carry the mechanical and electrical metal scope.

Can FabTek deliver pre-piped skids rather than loose spools?

Yes. CDU, pump and chiller skids ship with piping, valves and instrument taps installed and tested, ready to set and connect.

How is mechanical scope sequenced?

By area and hall against the construction schedule. Each spool and support is tagged to its isometric and room, and shipments are staged to the energization sequence.
