A Peddinghaus PCD-1100B three-spindle high-speed drill line — bolt patterns drilled on all three faces of a beam in one pass, to the tolerances bolted substation and transmission connections depend on.
Substation and transmission steel goes together with bolts, and a bolted connection is only as good as the hole pattern. A structural drill line drills the flanges and web of a beam or channel from three spindles at once, positioned by the CNC from the detailing model, so the pattern on the column matches the pattern on the beam it meets in the yard. That is the difference between an erection crew that bolts up and one that reams.
FabTek's Peddinghaus PCD-1100B is the drilling station in our structural cell, between the saws and the Voortman copers. Members are cut to length, drilled on the PCD, coped and marked on the coper, and moved to fit-up in one flow. The drill line is also where tight-tolerance holes in base plates and connection plates are finished when the plasma table's tolerance isn't enough — see our bolt-hole tolerance spec sheet for what utilities typically require.
Bolt patterns on dead-end and A-frame columns and beams, bus supports and equipment stands.
Splice, arm and base connections on transmission steel and tubular pole attachments.
Bolted framing for data center platforms, conveyor mezzanines and equipment skids.
Precision hole patterns finished on the drill line where plasma tolerance isn't adequate.
Members drilled to a detailer's model for erectors and fabricators who cope and weld elsewhere.

Hole patterns come from the same structural model the copers run.

HE&M band saws feed the structural cell.

The PCD-1100B drills web and both flanges in one pass, then scribes and marks.

Match-marked members go together from the marks, not the tape.

Every bolted structure in a substation package, transmission structures and poles, and the structural steel under data center and industrial equipment. Drilled members are galvanized through FabTek's partners and match-marked to the erection drawings, so the crew sets steel from the marks rather than the tape.

The drill line and the copers program from one structural model, which is why a member that leaves the cell fits the model: the holes the PCD drilled and the copes the V807 cut were positioned from the same datum. When a revision arrives, the model changes once and both machines follow. Our engineering and design group details every structures package that way, and our post on anchor bolt patterns and equipment stands covers how the hole pattern on the stand has to match the foundation.

A CNC machine that drills bolt holes in structural shapes from multiple spindles at once, positioned from the detailing model, so bolted connections fit in the field. FabTek runs a Peddinghaus PCD-1100B three-spindle line.
FabTek Industries drills structural steel on a Peddinghaus PCD-1100B at its Hazlehurst, Mississippi plants alongside two Voortman copers, and fabricates, welds and galvanizes the same steel.
To the utility's standard or AISC practice per the drawing; see our bolt-hole tolerance spec sheet. Tight-tolerance plate patterns are finished on the drill line or in machining.
